Philatelic Workshops

By way of trying to "kick start" discussions I would like to tout BC Phil's (Bob's) latest initiative: the Philatelic Workshop.

On an irregular basis (hopefully once a month or so) we will be hosting seminars at the club meeting exploring and eplaining any and all aspects of philately that members wish to discuss from the basic to the sublime.

Members are asked to provide suggestions as to topics we could/should cover in future meetings such as: "is it tongs or tweezers", "just what the heck ARE watermarks anyway", "what exactly does philately mean", ""should one use a 400 angstrom or 500 angstrom ultra-violet light to properly identify the paper types of the 1989 Burkina Faso definitive series?", just to name a few.

Please post your suggestions through the comments link.

Is Anyone Out There?

It has now been almost five years since the BC Phil blog was created. At the beginning your humble moderator clearly stated that I would NOT be creating blog threads, we depend on YOU folks to come up with ideas and themes which I would be willing to post for feedback by all and sundry.

In the past half decade we have received a grand total of exactly ZERO suggestions for new blog posts.

If this thing is ever going to work it requires input from each and every one of you out there in the "Philatelic Phirmament".

If anyone has new ideas for threads please post them in the comments section of this post.

THANK YOU

BC150

BC150 our one day Club show is coming together nicely. With 50 exhibit frames booked, bourse tables taken by 8 dealers: Brian Gosselin, June Gibson, Peter Jensen, Wayne Dodds, Aiden Butterfield, Jim Miller, Bob McGillivray, and Tom Watkins, souvenirs produced, judges arranged, hall with tables and chairs rented, copious amounts of Valium ingested...

However, we still desperately need volunteers!

We do not yet have firm commitments for the transport, set-up and tear-down of the exhibit frames and we need folks to tend to the reception table to hand out exhibits lists, favourite exhibit ballots and flog 50/50 draw tickets. Please let us know how where and when you can help your Club to make our show a success.

We should be okay as regards the running of the Show souvenirs and Club consignment table but extra hands are always welcome.

Thanks to all working to make BC150 a success, Derren,

Exhibition Chair, Bourse Chair, Promotion and Publicity Chair, Treasurer, and the bloke in charge of separating the rubber bands from the paper clips!

Quo Vadis B.C.Phil

With the recent changes in Executive at B.C.Phil and our inability to attract a full compliment of volunteers for the Club and Vanpex rosters there are are some questions as to where we are going as a club.

Past President Bob Ingraham, having to step away from his self-created duties as webmaster for the B.C.Phil webpage (a site which was created as a result of his multi-talented, single handed initiative!) and unable to find a suitable replacement for webmaster (HTML? Is that anything like a BLT?) suggested that we set up a "Blog" (loathe that term) to serve the dual function of creating a user friendly, WYSIWYG web page which has the additional function of allowing any and all members of the Club to post news, information, comments, criticisms, ideas and blog threads of thier own allowing for both an easier ability for someone to manage the site and members to have a more active involvement through the blog to participate in helping build and direct the Club in a way that will see it strengthen and grow.

Unsure as to exactly what degree of involvement will be required as manager of the blog (could someone PLEASE come up with a better term!?) Yours Truly is willing to *Provisionally* oversee the co-ordination of same until someone more capable can be tapped.

Members are invited to post their comments via the "post a comment" link at the bottom of the page.
